This 1,100km loop takes in some of the best driving roads and varied scenery alongside three coastlines and over one mountain pass.

There are so many different wonderful elements to experience. You've got mountains and the valleys, dips and dives alongside sprawling rivers, and the wild West Coast. Then you have the dramatic ravines of Arthurs Pass contrasting with the glorious coastal road tracking alongside the dramatic ocean for much of the East Coast side. And finally the twisting route embracing beautiful alcoves along the Marlborough Sounds.

Add to that the vineyards of Blenheim, whale watching at Kaikoura, the tranquil Nelson Lakes, all the activities, dining and shopping in Nelson & Christchurch themselves and an opportunity for relaxing in Hot Springs at Hanmer en route and well....this could be a never ending loop....

Which car to take...?

Our 2009 Alfa Romeo Spider would be just perfect for this varied terrain. Equally at home in the shopping boulevards of Christchurch or on the twisting mountain passes, all wheel drive provides surefooted handling in all conditions, and the 3.2 litre engine takes the long runs in it's stride. And of course in a convertible, you can really soak in all those changing vistas!
