What a pleasure to drive a classic Saab convertible in the South Island of New Zealand, covered 2,000 trouble free kilometres in seven days with two passengers, having the soft top down and experiencing the sights into Milford Sound was just incredible, you see the whole landscape, not just a view from the window!
If you prefer gentle meandering rather than big road trips, these two one day excursions can be combined into a manageable 475km multi-day outing, all within easy reach of Christchurch.
The French infused town of Akaroa is reached via a lovely up hill and down dale route through the Banks Peninsula, where you can enjoy cafes, walks and dolphin encounters.
Next day head out south west to the charming small town of Geraldine and then take Scenic Highway 72 back where the Canterbury Plains run alongside the Southern Alps. There's the magnificent Rakaia Gorge and Mount Sunday, the location of ‘Edoras’ in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, plus jet boating and hot air ballooning opportunities
Combine these with all the activities, dining and culture available in Christchurch itself and one of our sports cars, and you have all the ingredients for some classic days out.
