Many and varied are the delights of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, and its surrounding areas. Whether you like to potter locally or take a long distance trip, there are scenic drives and delightful destinations in every direction.

So, pick up your RentAClassic transport of delight near the airport and explore…

Auckland City / CBD – 30 mins away

So much to see and enjoy – sophisticated downtown shopping, dining and relaxing in the CBD particularly around the expansive waterfront and snazzy marina, ascending the lofty Sky Tower, wandering the War Memorial Museum and Botanical Gardens, or climbing the many old volcanic hills that afford fine views of the city. Like all big cities, parking isn’t cheap so we recommend heading to the good value Downtown Car Park on Customs St East.

Auckland City Outskirts and Islands – 30 to 90 mins away

Auckland’s ferries can whisk you away to all sorts of island getaways. Go stargazing on the Great Barrier Island, visit Waiheke Island, the Island of Wine, kayak to Rangitoto Island or explore the Hauraki Gulf on a whale safari. Or visit the myriad rugged beaches of West Auckland, many offering glamping getaways. Devonport is another characterful suburb, accessible by a 20 minute ferry ride.

Day and Night Drives

Different directions and different vibes, but all delightful destinations.

Heading north, Puhoi and Farmers Markets at Matakana and Oratia offer an eclectic mix. A couple of hours south, find glow-worm caves or underground rafting adventures at Waitomo and the Hobbiton Movie Set Tours is a must for all you Frodo fans.

Night lights – At the end of the day, particularly on a warm summers evening, we can’t think of much better than driving roof down in one of our convertibles under the bright city lights, and soaking it all in before and after your evening meal.

Further afield

These will need several days and the key to enjoying them is to not try and pack in too many miles at once. The driving demands are often under-estimated, but you’re in a capable car on some of the most scenic roads in the world so relax and enjoy the stunning scenery which is definitely not to be rushed. Northwards, tour the beautiful Bay of Islands and rugged Northlands, eastwards you have the Coromandel beaches and Bay of Plenty coastline, and south, the geo thermal delights of Rotorua, and then Lake Taupo.
