For people who want the feeling of security, space and high up view you get from driving an SUV, but who don't want to fall asleep driving one. A high seated position gives you a great confident view not only of the road ahead, but with the roof down, you get all the sky above too! OK press on sports car it's not, but the 2.4 engine is pretty lusty and can cope with anything New Zealand roads can throw at it, jus' fine an' dandy. It's a smooth boulevardier cruiser, and top up the insulated roof makes for a surprisingly quiet touring experience for a fabric roof convertible.
Weeellll....rather than calling it the styling people 'love to hate', we prefer calling it the styling you'll hate to love. Darn it, it's jus so retro FUNky, especially in that brilliant bold bronze with statement alloy wheels. You are going to get noticed, so you'd better get used to the attention when you take the 'tangerine picnic basket' top down crusin'. And the major benefit is it can take a big picnic basket and more, plus 4 adult sized adults in plenty of space, with those in the back getting a great view of the action from their elevated 'stadium style' rear seats. Climbing into the back, the sports bar hoop can catch you out, but only once. Plus there's masses of headroom with the insulated fabric roof in place, which doesn't steal any boot space when it's down, and takes less than 10 secs with the push of a button after a simple unlatch.
This is a pretty modern American convertible with your standard ABS, traction control and airbags. She's regularly serviced and has to pass the Certificate of Fitness (CoF) test required for rental cars every 6 months. And despite the high back, your back is covered when reversing thanks to a reversing camera plus sonar.
Pretty pampered, everything is in good condition, and check out the long list of luxury features in the purple tab above.
A surprising amount - 1 large suitcase and 2 medium holdalls can be easily swallowed by the boot, even with the roof down. Please refer to the Seating & Luggage tab above for exact dimensions. If there are only 3 of you travelling, one of the rear seats can be folded up to give lots of extra space, if only 2 of you, both can to give a huge amount of luggage space. Indeed the original PT Cruiser was designed and sold as a people carrier so be assured this is one of the roomiest convertibles for 4 adults by some way.
It was a standout car back in the early 2000s.....and it's even more so today....
Not a lot IMHO so I'm picking the best cruising tracks to come out of the same country as the car, the US of A:
Now we acknowledge driving music is a very subjective thing, but clearly here, we’re right. So download, pair your Smartphone with the fancy Bluetooth in car stereo, and enjoy!
Quite fast enough. The clue's in the name - this one's for cruisin', not sprinting.
Let's just say he wasn't very complementary.....
