These photos aren’t from stock libraries, they’re ones we took ourselves on our road trip to take in these great drives and sights!
Lake Tekapo is around a 3 hour drive from Christchurch, and as well as the iconic Church of the Good Shepard overlooking the lake, there are natural beauties to be found looking upwards as the region is an international Dark Sky Reserve with amazing star gazing opportunities on hand.
Venture on another 1.5 hours and you’ll be craning your neck even more to see New Zealands highest peak Mount Cook from many different angles. There’s an easy access 3 hour return walk from Mount Cook village along the Hooker Valley walkway which ends at a glacial lake just below the mountain itself. The walk is mainly flat and crosses 3 pretty sturdy suspension bridges to bring you right to the foot of the ranges, a wonderful opportunity to get within seeming touching range of these inspiring spectacles.
